Tuesday, April 25 is Equal Pay Day and the National Organization for Women is urging everyone to wear red. The red represents the fact that when it comes to equal pay, women are still “in the red.” Women, on average, earn 76 cents for every dollar that a man earns; the gap is greater for women of color.
NOW chose April because it is the month that a woman’s pay equals that of a man on December 31 of the prior year. Tuesday was chosen because that is how far into the next week a woman must work in order to make the same as a man in the prior week.
