Update: Beach email was a “joke”

Seems the email circulating yesterday around Virginia Beach was a joke sent out by political consultant Brian Kirwin. From Pilotonline:

Kirwin addressed “all DeSteph voters” in the body of the e-mail and claimed that the voter registrar had postponed the election one day because of “prolonged testing of the new touchscreen voting machines.” Tuesday’s election was the first time all polling places used the new equipment.

Some joke. Good to see this is being taken seriously:

Commonwealth’s Attorney Harvey Bryant said his office was researching whether the incident violates state or federal law. Prosecutors also are trying to determine if computer hackers illegally got a list of DeSteph’s supporters.

Bryant said if the e-mail was sent out the day before the election, it likely “disrupts the integrity of the whole process” and “stabs at the fabric of what we are doing.”
