I think we all know that the battle over the so-called “Gay Marriage Amendment” is almost lost. The only question is how bad the loss will be. Today, a panel of state delegates voted to adopt the explanation of the amendment written by AG Bob McDonnell’s staff. This explanation will be included on the State Board of Elections’ website and be available at the polls.
Claire Guthrie Gastanaga, campaign manager for groups fighting the amendment, said McDonnell’s explanation is biased and encourages voters to support the measure. She noted that the Attorney General has participated in a fundraiser for a group that is backing the amendment.
So where again is all that money EV raised to fight this thing? I think some of it needs to be used about now.
The full text of the amendment, just in case you haven’t seen it:
“That only a union between one man and one woman may be a marriage valid in or recognized by this Commonwealth and its political subdivisions.
This Commonwealth and its political subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status for relationships of unmarried individuals that intends to approximate the design, qualities, significance, or effects of marriage. Nor shall this Commonwealth or its political subdivisions create or recognize another union, partnership, or other legal status to which is assigned the rights, benefits, obligations, qualities, or effects of marriage”
Holy crap. Did you find a link to what it said?
Not yet. Still looking.
