Party roundup

Almost 200 people came to my 1st Annual Memorial Day Bash yesterday. Attendees were from all over South Hampton Roads – Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Suffolk – and included not only party activists but rank and file Democratic voters. I was pleased to see a few Republicans as well πŸ˜‰

Party-attendees3.gifDelegate Adam Ebbin gets the award for traveling the longest distance to attend the event. Newly elected Virginia Beach school board member Pat Edmundson, who ran unapologetically as a Democrat, was a part of the Virginia Beach contingent. My own delegate, Paula Miller, was there along with her husband, Norfolk Clerk of Court George Schaefer.

Senate Democratic candidate Harris Miller was well received. He spoke for a few minutes but was there to talk one-on-one with folks for about two hours. 2nd Congressional District candidate Phil Kellam arrived as things were winding down. As I was introducing him to my sisters, who live in Hampton, I remembered that the 2nd included part of Hampton, although I wasn’t sure which part. Phill confirmed that at least one of my sisters (none of which are politically active) lives in the 2nd, so I think we got him a couple of votes over there πŸ™‚

A good time was had by all. Planning for next year’s bash has already begun, so mark your calendars for Saturday, May 26, 2007.

  1. Great party, Vivian! Your home is very lovely. There was a friend of your’s there taking pictures. Can you pass along to her my email address? She took a pic of my daughter with Harris Miller that I’d like to post at our blog. Thanks. See ya’ at the blog summit June 16th!

  2. Vivian,
Would “I forgot” be permissible? Would, “I’m exceedingly sorry” and “I owe you big-time” also be admitted?

Bottom-line: wife, daughter and I worked all day yesterday on the house and then spent a lovely evening together with some friends in Norfolk who invited us over to celebrate their daughter’s graduation from UVA.

    Maybe next year?

We still have to get that coffee. I have something I must ask you regarding our blogs. Feel free to email me.

  3. Hi Vivian,

Thanks for the great time at your beautiful home.
Did you know that your bash was mentioned the next week in the Washington Post? You are putting Tidewater on the map.

  4. Yes, I saw the mention. There were reporters following Miller around. That’s why it ended up there. Glad you had a good time πŸ˜‰
