Washington Post staff writer Michael D. Shear was one of two reporters who followed Harris Miller around his trip to South Hampton Roads this past weekend.
While Webb tries to woo Democrats with national backing, an antiwar message and an unconventional manner, Miller has hopped onto the tried-and-true Virginia campaign circuit, hoping to attract supporters one breakfast, one festival or even one neighborhood street at a time.
Yes, and one little party in my backyard:
After Norfolk [I think he meant Portsmouth], Miller stopped by the home of Vivian Paige, who lost a bid to become Norfolk’s treasurer last year, for a Memorial Day weekend picnic for Democrats. There, he worked a crowd filled with Webb and Miller supporters united by one thing: a dislike of Allen and Republicans.
Retail politics is what they call it. I say again: Webb needs to do some of this stuff down here. Or has he written off Hampton Roads? Here’s his calendar. You decide.
He might have written Hampton Roads off as a 60%+ win…not sure.
Virginia Centrist, Webb’s event schedule is truly pathetic. He is doing, what? 1-2 events a day? That is what he should have been doing in January. There have been entire days with no scheduled event. Webb doesn’t know how to campaign and shows no interest in learning.
