Just back from the Portsmouth City Democratic Committee cookout. They had a pretty good turnout – I’d say 50-60 people. The event was at the Lucas Center and Senator L. Louise Lucas, Delegate Lionel Spruill, Commissioner of the Revenue Frankie Edmondson, Sheriff Bill Watson and Mayor Dr. James Holley were among the attendees.
Upon my arrival, I had a chance to chat with a few members of the PCDC, most of whom I haven’t seen since last November’s election. Several of them commented that about the upcoming Senate race. They were disappointed with the newspaper coverage of the race (nothing new there!). One of them mentioned that they had been trying to reach the Jim Webb campaign but had not been able to so do.
Harris Miller arrived shortly after I did. (Note to Portsmouth: don’t have an event at 5pm! We can’t get thru the tunnel that time of day π¦ ) This was definitely a pro-Miller crowd, with Lucas and Spruill having previously endorsed him. Party chair Cynthia Morrison accompanied him as he met people and shook hands. While I don’t think she has officially endorsed him, it certainly sounded like it from her introduction to his speech. In looking around the crowd as Miller spoke, I saw people listening attentively and heads nodding in agreement and even some spontaneous applause in certain spots.
I think Miller picked up some more South Hampton Roads votes today.
I would be interested in hearing which candidate you support and why if you would mine sharing
