Kellam: No to debate

Rep. Thelma Drake’s campaign is saying that Democratic challenger Phil Kellam backed out of a schedule debate, which was to be broadcast on Christian radio station WYRM.

According to Drake’s campaign, Kellam withdrew from an appearance scheduled for Saturday on WYRM-AM after learning that Drake would be included.
[…]
Charles Kelly, who directs Kellam’s campaign, said Thursday that the allegation is untrue.
[…]
The general manager of WYRM, Larry Cobb, said he was told that [show host Henry] Driver was trying to set up the program, but not that it had been agreed to by both Kellam and Drake.
[…]
On Thursday, Driver confirmed the Drake campaign’s version of events.

I know it’s early but negative press is not a good thing.

  1. Sometimes it’s better to back out than to speak before you’re ready. Not sure the details on this obviously, but if Kellam needs more debate prep, then he should get it. The election isn’t for months. Best to be prepared. He’ll have plenty of time to debate between now and then.
