I see NLS is calling it for Web. I stick by my earlier prediction of a Miller win (51% to 49%). Everything I’ve seen points in that direction.
First – I got a phone call last night from someone looking for guidance on who to vote for. Naturally, I said Miller. He said he was leaning towards Webb. After talking for about 20 minutes, he said I had convinced him that Miller was the right person and that he, his girlfriend, his mother and a couple of his neighbors would all be voting for Miller.
After that, I sent out the following email:
Friends
Tomorrow, June 13, is Primary Day and your vote is needed. The Democratic Party has two fine candidates - Harris Miller and Jim Webb - running for the right to be our candidate against George Allen in November. I urge you to go out and let your voice be heard. Turnout for the primary is expected to be low so each vote is important.

Not a single person who emailed me back said anything about voting for Webb. I did get several reponses from people who said they were voting for Miller. One response I got was quite interesting. The person is a Republican but was going to go vote for Miller. (She voted for me in the D primary last year.) She said voting in D primaries was getting to be a habit! Then she emailed me this morning and said that it wouldn’t be the honorable thing to do, since she was going to support Allen in the fall.Another person emailed me this morning and said she had been leaning towards Webb until she started getting Miller mailers. She said that it is the first time mail has changed her mind. She was voting for Miller today.
At my precinct, I ran into three of my neighbors, all of which had come to vote for Miller and none of which I had talked to about doing so. At the precincts I visited, I talked to voters coming in and out. Again, no one would admit Webb support. All of them said Miller.
Yeah – a small sample. May mean a lot, may mean nothing. But figured I’d pass it along.
Webb’s got it, Vivian. Latest update has 90% of precincts reporting, and Webb up by 8,000 votes. I’d be amazed if there were enough votes left to reach 8,000.
It was closer than I expected, however, with Miller cleaning up in Richmond, Hampton, P-Town, and Norfolk.
