Light turnout in Norfolk

Just got back from checking out some precincts around the city.Turnout seems to be very light:

  • 4:55 pm – Barron Black – 49 votes
  • 5:10 pm – Rosemont – 80 votes
  • 5:25 pm – Tanner’s Creek – 23 votes
  • 5:40 pm – Norview Middle – 49 votes
  • 6:00 pm – Azalea Gardens – 55 votes
  • 6:08 pm – Larrymore – 113 votes

Signage? Except for Barron Black, which is my precint and has a wonderful D precinct captain, Ellis James, the other precincts had 1 or 2 Webb signs and no Miller signs. My precinct had tons of Miller signs and 2 or 3 Webb signs.

I didn’t meet any Webb voters while I was out. I did meet a number of people who were voting for Miller, including some from my (mostly Republican) neighborhood.

  1. Norfolk had city council and mayoral elections last month, so there is a election burnout factor to consider. i have to ask: why weren’t the primaries and the city elections held on the same day? These seperate elections were a unnecessary waste of taxpayer money.

  2. Blame that on the local officials who refuse to move the municipal elections to November. Virginia Beach took up the question at their meeting last night. But it's not even on the radar for Norfolk.
