It took the Norfolk City Council seven ballots but they agreed today to make Paul Riddick vice mayor, as discussed here. The deciding vote was cast by Barclay Wynn, who voted for nobody on the first six ballots. Joining him in support of Riddick were Mayor Paul Fraim, W. Randy Wright and Don Williams. Supporting current vice mayor Daun Hester were Anthony Burfoot and council’s newest member Theresa Whibley.
Interesting that Whibley voted for Hester when she was so actively supported by Fraim. Is this a peek at what is to come? Do we finally have an independent voice on council?
“Interesting that Whibley voted for Hester when she was so actively supported by Fraim. ”
I think you misspoke there?
I don’t understand Hester’s sins. I guess the message is do what the, what, white? – or what is the criterion? – want done or be ignored.
No. Whibley did vote for Hester, along with Anthony Burfoot. With Daun, that made 3 votes for Hester. The original article that the Pilot posted included the vote tally. And Whibley was actively supported by Fraim.
What part do you not agree with?
I’m not sure anybody understands what Daun did wrong. The rumors of this happening (Riddick being elected VM) have been around for a number of months.
