More Norfolk ships to Lebanon

The Virginian Pilot is reporting that five ships, mostly based in Norfolk and currently operating in the Red Sea, have been sent to Lebanon to assist with the evacuation of Americans there.

The Iwo Jima Strike Group includes the amphibious ship Iwo Jima, Nashville and Whidbey Island. It will be joined by the amphibious transport dock Trenton and the high speed vessel Swift.

There are some 25,000 Americans there. There will, however, be a price to pay in getting out:

Before being evacuated on U.S.-chartered ships, Americans are being asked to sign promissory notes to repay the U.S. government for the journey.

h/t to j’s notes for that link.
