Betsy Wright Rhodes completed her four-part series covering the above with her column last Saturday entitled “Middle East headlines teach us a tragic lesson.”
Why should there be a high wall of separation between religion and government?
For the answer, simply turn your sights to the Middle East. Nowhere at present is there a better example of the tragedies that can result from a fusion of politics and religion.
I agree. Is this what we wish our future to look like? I certainly don’t. Our freedom of religion is also freedom from religion. We should not impose our religious beliefs on each other. The Founding Fathers were pretty clear on this, I think.
And like Rhodes, I believe that the separation of church and state is also in the Bible, when we are told to “render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
The entire article is worth a read.
