PilotOnline is reporting that First Lady Laura Bush will be coming to Norfolk to raise money for 2nd District Congresswoman Thelma Drake. The event is set for breakfast on September 7 at the Norfolk Marriot.
The White House and Drake’s campaign would not confirm the visit, but The Virginian-Pilot obtained an invitation.
While the NRCC has been unwilling to commit any money to the heated race between the Drake and Democratic challenger Phil Kellam, Drake has managed to have President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney come to the area for fundraisers.

Sounds good to me. No money from NRCC (they’re just “watching”), but let Bush and Lady Bush come here instead. Hell, bring back Dick Cheney! Let’s keep on reminding voters of who exactly Drake rubberstamps and who exactly is plummeting big time in public opinion polls. Could not ask for anything better!
Maybe they’re mad that Kellam’s turned down the American Legion’s debate.
