Monday morning quarterback 8/21

Well, I was so busy Saturday that I missed all but the last 3 minutes of the Redskins loss to the Jets. Coach Joe Gibbs, though, calls the loss “disappointing” and I figure he knows a heck of a lot more than I do.

  1. Not to worry. Under Gibbs, over the years, the Redskins have lost more preseason games than not. As I recall it, at least one of the Super Bowl years, maybe two of them, the β€˜Skins went 0-4 in preseason.

Of course, nobody with a strong competitive spirit likes to lose anything, any time. But preseason games are to look at young/new players, to see how many of them can help the team in the regular season. And, they are to check to see if any of the veterans have lost a step or gotten senile. Not much else.

  2. I was disappointed by the lack of intensity Saturday night. This definitely wasn’t Joe Gibbs football. F.T. is right though–this is exactly what preseason is about. I suspect it may take a few regular season games to get the offense in synch, but Gibbs, if anyone can get this team to perform at a top level. The talent is certainly there.

  3. I remember those Super Bowl years, which is why I didn’t feel too bad about missing this game. I trust Gibbs to get it together when it counts πŸ˜‰
