Contrary to the Pilot’s assertion this morning, I really haven’t written much about George Allen and the M-word scandal. But I feel like I need to weigh in on the latest issue making its way around the blogsphere: the 1996 photo (click to enlarge) of then-governor Allen with members of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC). The quick and dirty is that Allen attended the Conservative Political Action Conference and the CCC was one of the sponsors. Allen posed for the picture with some of the members plus Charlton Heston. In 1998, it was discovered that the CCC was a racist group and the CPAC and most lawmakers have distanced themselves from it.
I don’t think the nature of the CCC is in doubt. The only question I have is how much did Allen know about this group and when did he know it? That information would go a long way towards letting us – his constituents – really know what he thinks about groups like this.
ERIC,
Sorry you have to take your ball and go play somewhere else where you aren’t asked to defend your statements… BUT before you leave could you answer the lady’s question “What did Allen know about the CCC and when did he know it?” That is a relevant question from me also, Ms Paige, and any concerned Virginia voter – either Democrat or Republican. I’m surprised that you’re not the least bit curious as to the answer. Either you
a) already know the answer and are embarassed by it, or
b) Don’t know and don’t care, which says a lot about you,
c) or there is a logical explanation (which I doubt)
Either way IF you do find an answer over at VA Conservatives, I hope that you’ll eventually shave the answer with us. Inquiring minds want to know…

All I have to say is here, with a bit of humor mixed in http://www.spankthatdonkey.com/spankthatdonkey2/2006/8/31/allen-campaign-in-trouble-they-better-get-help-fast.html
It is grossly unfair to any politician to attack him soley based on a photograph at a convention… I would think you would appreciate that after having run for office?
We all need to move beyond this kind of politics, and I’d love to see some one from the Left side of the political spectrum to challenge the constant use of the “N” word by VA Progressive bloggers…. They need to quit (in my opinion) interjecting this kind of language into our political landscape. It is far from helpful…
Spank – I haven’t attacked Allen. I simply asked what did he know and when did he know it? That’s a far cry from an attack.
As for the “N” word – I wrote about that here.
Finally, after being attacked in my run for office last year, I know what an attack is. Asking a question ain’t it.
Vivian:
I am not saying you are attacking Allen, I am just trying to counter some of the other posters here, who are just perpetuating the same old, same old, and I must say, BS, has appropriately named his psyued… & Zen doesn’t answer my comments, about how easily this same situation can trip up his favorite Republican turned Dem. Webb, but decides to just tear off on another tangent.
That tangent being, we the left wing jury have convicted Senator Allen of being a racist, and let us recount the ways… vs. discussing the situation at hand!
Vivian:
If 50 is the record for most comments to a post, I’d like to push it over the threshold for you π
Oh, and since I am posting last, that must mean that I win π
lol… silly
