Monday Morning Quarterback (on a Friday night)

What can I say about last night’s final preseason game for the Washington Redskins? It was another disappointing loss. On some plays, it looked as if it was the beginning of training camp instead of the end.

One bright spot: quarterback Todd Collins. His experience in Al Saunders’ offense shows. With 12 years’ experience, he has a bit of age on him but not much wear and tear on his body since he has never played much. I have no idea if second-year man Jason Campbell will be able to step in and play should something happen to Mark Brunell. Campbell hasn’t shown me much this preseason. But I think Collins could.

Related note: Forbes (via Bloomberg) says the ‘Skins are the most valuable franchise in the NFL, worth $1.42 billion. The Cowboys are ranked third, worth a mere $1.173 billion. πŸ˜€ Now if we could just translate all that worth into a Superbowl win.

  1. Not so long ago the Redskins were considered to be the most valuable pro sports franchise in America, bar none. I don’t know if it’s still true.

And, I still feel good about Washington’s chances to be a contender this season. Campbell seems OK to me — a work-in-progress.

At 11 p.m. it’s still raining here, but the Fan hasn’t been flooded yet. Electricity is still on (knock on wood). How about you?

  2. Rain stopped about 2pm today. I had more water in my yard (I live on a lake) than I’ve seen in the nearly 7 years I’ve lived here. I’ll be in Richmond tomorrow night. Hopefully, the rain will be over by then.

And yeah, Campbell’s a work in progress. Gotta feel sorry for the guy – something like his 5th different offensive scheme in 5 years.

  3. Maybe we HR bloggers need to get together one Sunday afternoon and watch some games πŸ™‚ With NFL Sunday Ticket and a 65″ high def TV, I’ll be happy to host πŸ˜‰

  4. Ah, but who said anything about watching a Skins game? With NFL Sunday ticket, I can watch any game that is broadcast. And with NFL SuperFan, I can watch 8 games at once!
