In addition to polling on the Webb/Allen race, the latest Mason Dixon poll looked at a couple of other things:
Allen running for president
- Should he run? Yes – 37%, No – 49%, Undecided – 14%. In July, the numbers were Yes – 42%, No – 38%, Undecided – 20%.
- Would you vote for him? Yes – 39%, No – 52%, Undecided – 9%. Compare this to the July numbers: Yes – 47%, No – 41%, Undecided – 12%.
Allen should probably forget about a run. The trend here is definitely downward, no doubt a direct result of the M-word controversy.
Warner running for president
- Should he run? Yes – 54%, No – 23%, Undecided – 23%. July numbers: Yes – 42%, No – 39%, Undecided – 19%.
- Would you vote for him? Yes – 56%, No – 30%, Undecided – 14%. In July: Yes – 55%, No – 30%, Undecided – 15%.
Interesting to me is that the people saying that he should run increased but the percentage that would vote for him remained unchanged. Support for a run in this case is not equal to votes. What can Warner do to move those people into casting votes for him?
Marshall Newman Amendment
This time, Mason Dixon polled using the entire text of the amendment. The result was 54% in favor, 40% against. In July, when only the first part of the amendment was read, the numbers were 56% in favor, 38% against.
What this means is that the Commonwealth Coalition along with all of us who are Voting NO have a lot of work to do between now and NOvember 7. We have to contribute our time and our money to defeat this. Don’t take it for granted that someone else will do it.

These types of polls are incredibly soft. They’re more about favorables vs unfavorables than support for a hypothetical presidential candidate.
Right now, Warner’s favorables are high, and he’s in the Presidential mix as a first tier candidate, so his numbers in that question are high.
Allen’s negatives are very high, so his numbers are low.
Yeah, I know, but I still think the # of voters should have increased.
Definitely Allen should run for President… Even he could do a better job than George Bush has. Besides, he can pronounce all those foreign words like “macaca”, although he claims he doesn’t know what they mean.
Buzz…Buzz
These links are kinda old, but they sure do provide a compelling damnation of Allen’s attempts to blow off his enchantment with the Confederacy. I was following links from somewhere and landed on them this morning:

The second one is a short follow-up to the first and has a really grotesque picture of Allen in college spitting tobacco juice at the camera person.
