I mean, the guy just can’t get a break. Richmond Times Dispatch writer Michael Paul Williams says:
After all, Allen is a tough sell as a Friend of Black People.
The incumbent Allen, reared in Southern California, has spent much of his life carefully fashioning the persona of a Confederate-loving good ol’ boy. And it was only weeks ago that he insulted a Virginia native of Indian descent during his “m-word” [edited] gaffe.
You mean that even after he trotted out four black ministers at the McCain rally and the same four black ministers wrote a letter to the editor on his behalf, Allen is still a tough sell to blacks? Who would have guessed?
Trying to divert attention, Allen helped some female U.S. Naval Academy grads attack Webb over comments made more than 20 years ago. That went over well – NOT. Or so says the conservative National Review:
Ah, for the days of the “m-word” [edited] dispute… Now Allen has risked alienating conservative voters by launching his own silly attack on Webb.
And then there’s Allen’s own little problem with women:
The [Webb] campaign also pointed out that eleven years ago, as governor of Virginia, George Allen opposed (correctly, in our view) integrating the all-male Virginia Military Institute, saying “it wouldn’t be the VMI that we’ve known for 154 years. You just don’t treat women the way you treat fellow cadets.”
So what was the point of the Allen campaign’s attack on Webb? Does Allen actually think women should be in direct combat? If so, what current combat exemptions does he want lifted?
Good questions. Once again, Allen gets it from both sides.
Poor George. 😆
Aw c’mon Vivian. Surely you don’t give any credibility to Michael Paul Whine-iams!
