What a game! Was Mark Brunell rejuvenated at the prospect of playing his old team? It sure looked that way. His passes were, for the most part, crisp and on target. Given the stitches in his elbow and the fact that he didn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday, I was prepared for another let down. After all, Jacksonville ain’t Houston. But I was pleasantly surprised at the way the team played. I say give him off every Wednesday and Thursday. 😆
The offense appears to have made tremendous strides in the new system this week. The defense did a good job as well, sacking Leftwich about 4 times, and pressuring him most of the game. Leftwich has a rocket arm, but as long as he’s looking up at the sky (because he’s on his back), that arm can’t beat us. Special teams were also quite good, with Rock Cartwright having some nice returns.
Overall, I’m pleased. Let’s keep the momentum going into next week’s game at the Giants.
Indeed!
A great win against a very good team. Can’t ask for more.
Some additional good news is that Washington won without its top corner back, Shawn Springs. When Springs returns–hopefully in another 2 to 3 weeks–this defense will have the potential to be among the league’s best (e.g fewer big play TDs, more interceptions, more sacks, more fumbles).
