The Washington Times weighs in today with this editorial calling for the resignation of House Speaker Dennis Hastert.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert must do the only right thing, and resign his speakership at once. Either he was grossly negligent for not taking the red flags fully into account and ordering a swift investigation, for not even remembering the order of events leading up to last week’s revelations — or he deliberately looked the other way in hopes that a brewing scandal would simply blow away.
I agree. Hastert must go.
The Wall Street Journal seems to think that Foley being a closeted gay man was the reason the House leadership looked away:
But in today’s politically correct culture, it’s easy to understand how senior Republicans might well have decided they had no grounds to doubt Mr. Foley merely because he was gay and a little too friendly in emails. Some of those liberals now shouting the loudest for Mr. Hastert’s head are the same voices who tell us that the larger society must be tolerant of private lifestyle choices, and certainly must never leap to conclusions about gay men and young boys.
Earth to the WSJ and Jerry Fuhrman: being gay has nothing to do with inappropriate behavior between an adult and a minor. It’s really that simple. I know you guys want to try to paint all gays as sexual predators but the overwhelming number of sexual predators are not gay. This is gay bashing and shows that you obviously don’t know any gay people. Gay relationships are two consenting adults. The fact is that the Republican leadership didn’t want to acknowledge the possibility that one of their own was gay (Log Cabin Republicans, notwithstanding) and are now trying to find an excuse for their own inept handling of the situation. Don’t blame Foley’s behavior on his being gay. The man is a sexual predator, the leadership knew it, and they must all be held responsible.
I miss Newt, too.
WTF is wrong with the WSJ? What is politically correct anyway? I’m so sick of the pandering and the labeling. Even Sunday’s VP had some article questioning the morality of “labeling” dead people using such labels as racist, adulterer, murderer, and absurdly included in that list “lesbian”.
Did you voice the same opinion a few years back when a democrat who was actually having sex with a young page was caught??? Or were you one of the democrats who not only supported him privately but insured he would satay in office and gave him a standing ovation??? Funny how some people’s moral values are swayed soley by political affiliation.
I work with sexually abused children and you obviousely do not understand the large portion of the gay community who inlist young boys in sex. The problem is that when anyone tries to stop them or prosecute them they cry foul, stating they are being discriminated against because they are gay. Get your head out of the political sand and look at the world around you. The real world. Not the skewed picture painted by a biased media.
As a newcomer to my blog, I’d suggest you take a few minutes and look around.
As for your claim of working with sexually abused children – let me call BS right now. Men who enlist young boys in sex are not gay, they are pedophiles. Gay people have sex with adults.
If you do work with sexually abused children, then I fear for them.
i hate foley!!!
