Kiwanis Harbor Party

I went to the Kiwanis Harbor Party for a bit Thursday night. Compared to last year, it felt like there were fewer people there but then it could have been that there were so many races last year that the place was overrun with campaign workers. πŸ˜† At least this year, I didn’t see the cops removing the candidates’ signs.

I mainly stopped by to hand out some Vote NO stickers. Since the local field person was tied up, I figured I’d head down and at least get some folks to wear the stickers. I passed out every one that I took with me, so I probably should have carried more.

Both Thelma Drake and Phil Kellam were there and addressed the crowd. I was glad to see both candidates there for an extended period of time, talking to voters. AG Bob McDonnell was also there. As I was arriving, I saw a couple of our council members and one of the delegates.

If signs could vote, then Kellam would have won, because he certainly won the sign war. As for the stickers, I’d say it was about even.

The Kiwanis Harbor Party has turned into a very nice political party, something that is pretty rare in these parts. Last year, Tim Kaine, Bob McDonnell and Mrs. Kilgore were all there. I guess it’s Norfolk’s Shad Planking, without the shad. But the crabcakes were pretty tasty πŸ™‚
