  1. Excellent! I sense from this particular ad that there are more coming? Do you know, Vivian? I like the theme here. Keep profiling the different impacted scenarios should this “thing” pass.

  2. I’ve not seen any of these ads in NOVA.

How does this amendment change things? Are unmarried people now allowed to consent for their partners and children to whom they are not related? How long do people have to live together to be allowed to medical decisions for each other under current law? I would hate to think that a roommate of a few weeks could legally make medical decisions for their roommate. Does a Mother’s boyfriend now get to medical decisions about her child by another relationship? How long does he have to have resided in the home to be qualified to make legal decisions? How does it currently work under VA law and how will this amendment change things?

    Thanks.

  3. This means that a power of attorney would be useless because the participants were of the same sex or they might be considered a same-sex couple trying to circumvent the law? Being a cancer patient and also diagnosed with congestive heart failure, I want my partner of thirty years making medical decisions on my behalf. I have no other family! Is that too much to ask from the state of Virginia – the state where I’ve dutifully paid my taxes, contributed to the community, and been a lawful citizen?

  4. What if… although a person is not married, nor is this person a homosexual, but lives with a brother or sister, cousin, other relative of the same sex, and there is no other family… does that mean this person has nobody to depend on in a medical crisis? Does it mean they must find a total stranger to whom they can give power of attorney? Does it mean this person cannot leave all their worldly possessions to the relative that has been caring for them simply because they are of the same sex? Was this amendment concieved by someone from another planet? Do they expect to pass this amendment and then arbitrarily decide later who will be affected by the ramifications? There are way too many “what if’s” to suit me and I plan to vote NO to this amendment!
