I meant to mention these earlier but it’s been a busy day and, frankly, I forgot.
Billy Robinson: The End
Former defense attorney and delegate Billy Robinson surrendered his law license yesterday. This marks the end of a brilliant, contentious career. Robinson, 63, is undergoing treatment for liver cancer and announced last month his retirement. I wish him well.
Clarification of Deeds’ stand
Yesterday, I mentioned that the Pilot had reprinted the op-ed piece from Victoria Cobb, which implied the former AG candidate Senator Creigh Deeds supported the so-called Marriage Amendment. I forwarded to the Pilot a copy of Deeds’ statement and asked that they print a correction. They printed the following on the editorial page:
Clarification
State Sen. R. Creigh Deeds, D-Bath, says he will vote no on Ballot Question No. 1, the so-called marriage amendment.
An op-ed in Tuesday’s Virginian-Pilot by Victoria Cobb, with the Family Foundation of Virginia, said Deeds voted in favor of the amendment as a legislator. Deeds says that’s true, and that he believes marriage is between one man and one woman.
But he also says the language of the amendment “goes far beyond existing law and threatens real harm to may Virginians and their families, among them the unmarried victims of domestic violence.”
