The League of Women Voters of South Hampton Roads, the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia, and the Virginia Wesleyan College’s Center for the Study of Religious Freedom are sponsoring a forum entitled “Checks and Imbalances: The President, Congress and the Courts in the Post-9/11 World.”
This is a discussion on the presidential powers during times of crisis. Participating will be William Van Alstyne, an internationally recognized expert on constitutional law and currently the Lee Professor at William and Mary Law School, along with Julian G. Ku, a frequent speaker on the separation of powers, national security and torture. Mr. Ku is an associate professor of law at Hofstra University and a visiting professor at W&M Law School.
The event will be moderated by Joel Rubin.
