Monday Morning Quarterback 12/11/06

So the Redskins have been officially eliminated from the playoffs with yesterday’s loss to the Eagles and a 4-9 record. Of course, they really were eliminated a while back, but now the playoffs aren’t even a mathematical possibility.

The Skins played well yesterday, outperforming the Eagles in running yards, passing yards and time of possession. But it wasn’t enough to overcome the turnovers and penalties.

I was sort of looking forward to next week’s game against New Orleans. That is, until I saw how they whupped the Cowboys. Yeah, I know the ‘Skins beat the ‘Boys but that was a fluke. I suspect next week’s game will be a thrashing.

I guess there is always next season to look forward to. 😦

  1. Meanwhile, having grown up in Southeastern Pennsylvania, I feel compelled to say:

    GO EAGLES!!!

I fear those damn Giants will be a hard win, but I sure hope they win it!

  2. With the way Brees is throwing the football, the Saints will go through the Redskins’ secondary like a hot knife through butter. That will help in the fantasy football department!

  3. Even if the Cowboys game was a fluke, it is nice to know that we won’t be hearing anything from Cowboys fans directly concerning the rivalry at least until next season. Now, we just have to hope that the New Orleans game was more of an indicator for Dallas than the Saints.

And Charles Stanton, all I can say is I am so sorry for you, and that you must be the best fan in the world to stick with that team.

  4. Why, oh whyyyyyyyyyyyyy didn’t they try to run the ball in with 6 and goal? Why didn’t they put in Ladell Betts and exactly when do they plan to start REALLY using TJ Duckett? He’s like a gargantuan statue standing on the sidelines waiting to get into the game. Why get timid with less than 5 minutes left in the game?

Well, the turnovers killed them, but that’s what happens with a rookie quarterback, so I can’t be too hard on the kid, but the defensive line leaks like a sieve and the playcalling just sucks … gasp … all this ranting is leaving me breathless.

  5. CR UVa..

We get enough winning with the U of M, Pistons and Red Wings. My Tigers has a great year. I consider the Lions sort of a penance for enjoying the successes of the other Mo Town teams!

It is like visiting the dentist watching the LieDowns play.

  6. Carla – I had the exact same reaction as you when that happened. It is as if whoever is calling the plays is schizophrenic. I have no idea why they thought they would get the ball back later. The time to score a touchdown – and take the lead – was right then!

  7. As an Eagles fan, I feel obligated to say two things:

    1) Thank god the game only lasted 4 quarters.
    2) Thank god the Redskins have Al Saunders.

The only downside to having a good shot to make the playoffs this year is that Andy Reid won’t be fired for not running the ball early and not being aggressive late. But if we can split with the Giants and then beat the Falcons, we’re in. And a Redskins win over the Giants last game of the season would be a big help … can you do it?
