Bearing Drift has some additional information on Hank Giffin, the Republican (as yet unannounced) challenger in the the 87th, a seat currently occupied by Paula Miller. Pam reports that a fundraiser with Newt Gingrich is in the works for February.
Right now, I’m getting contradictory information on this race. If some of the stuff I’m hearing pans out, this will be one of the most hotly contested races in the state this year.

I have always said that for honest and intellectual commentary for the Dems, THIS is the place to come… As much as I disagree with most of of it 🙂 Still talent is talent!
How can this be one of the most hotly contested races in the state? Virginia Beach and Northern Virginia will have all of those. What does Hank Giffin bring to the table any different than Michael Ball? Both are extremely conservative. The Republicans are stupid if they think they have a chance here. Please let them waste their money.
This race won’t even be the one to watch in Hampton Roads. Welch and Wardrup will have a much tougher time of getting re-elected than Paula Miller. Gillespie, go ahead and spend money in the 87th.

What do you think the chances are for someone like Newt coming into Hampton Roads to do a fundraiser for a state delegate? Doesn’t seem like it would be worth his time. Do you think the Norfolk Democratic Party should be working to bring in someone to match this?

HELLO, HOW DOES THE NORFOLK GOP EXPECT TO WIN THE 87TH DISTRICT WHEN THE PARTY ITSELF IS BROKE, THEY HAVE NOT DOWN THE WORK TO BUILD A GREAT PARTYING IN NORFOLK, LACK OF LEADERSHIP MAYBE, BUT THE DEMS. HAVE WORKED HARD TO BUILD A PARTY IN NORFOLK MAYBE THE NORFOLK GOP SHOULD FOLLOW THAT LEAD. THIS IS A THOUGHT FROM A PERSON WHO DOES CARE FOR THE HARD WORKING PEOPLE IN THE NORFOLK GOP BUT I WILL NOT HIDE THE TRUTH EVEN WHEN IT HURTS.
