New DCCC Chair

Van Hollen

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has announced a new chairman and it is Congressman Chris Van Hollen of Maryland. Van Hollen arrived in Congress in 2002. He worked alongside outgoing Chair Rahm Emanuel, focusing on candidate recruitment and as co-chair of the “Red to Blue” program of the DCCC.

As previously announced, Emanuel will be serving as Chairman of the Democratic Caucus.

  1. I was a volunteer on his campaign in 2002. This guy is the genuine article when it comes to fighting for Democratic principles. He’ll be the Senator in 2010 when Mikulski retires. If all goes well, I’ll volunteer for him again.

He’s also a regular guy too and I saw him dance like no one’s business at a fundraiser for young professionals. Probably the most fun I’ve ever had on a campaign.

  2. For my dad, Chris is best known as the man who beat Connie Morella. He was the precinct captain and he hated how his Republican counterpart “out-signed” him throughout the neighborhood. Our neighborhood was hard-core Democrat except for maybe one or two, and of course these were the people who put up signs. Democrats don’t even do signs in Montgomery County, well at least they didn’t when I was growing up there.

Chris Van Hollen endeared himself to me following his speech at the 2004 Million Mom March. It was the last march/rally down on Capitol Hill that my mother was able to attend. She was a hurting puppy but she made it nonetheless. She lasted as long as it took for Chris to come to the podium and speak. Then we went home. She was so happy to have made it though. She did that march for the first MMM in 2000. Gun control was a big issue for her as it was for Chris Van Hollen.

That’s the funny thing about Maryland. Both Chris and Connie Morella had Sarah Brady, Reagan’s former press secretary James Brady’s wife, campaigning for them for their standing up to the gun lobby. Chris even touted his Million Mom endorsement. Do you remember the sh*t hurled at Kaine for participating when he was mayor in Richmond’s MMM?

My 2 brothers both really like Chris, too. One voted for him in 2006, but the other is a DC resident now. He has those “Taxation Without Representation” tags. Chris and Eleanor Holmes Norton will take care of that! 🙂
