Five years ago, on January 3, 2002, we awoke to a beautiful blanket of snow. Such an occasion is relatively rare for these parts. And with temperatures in the 70s the last few days, I don’t expect that we will be seeing any snow here this winter.
I know that there is a lot of talk about the warm weather that we have been experiencing lately but before the snow in 2002,
we had been having some pretty warm weather as well. As this photo shows, the geraniums in my pots out front were still in bloom. I plant geraniums in those pots every year and I just leave them out there until the frost kills them. This year, the frost has already taken last summer’s plants. So even though we had all that snow in January 2002, we hadn’t had the frost yet.
And if I recall correctly, the snow was gone – like always – the next day. But we did have enough to make snow cream 🙂
The snow was so bad five years ago that the moving van which brought our family to Richmond almost couldn’t leave the holding area where it had parked the night before. We couldn’t believe we had moved “South”! It’s still hard to believe that our grass is still green in January. I’m enjoying it so much I’m afraid to go see Al Gore’s movie even though I need to.
Vivian, please delete the above comment. It was cut off (vjp: Done 🙂 )
I love how the tree huggers on TV are screaming GLOBAL WARMING! right after the stories that show Denver.
Also, they imply GLOBAL WARMING! even with stories of the snow and bad winter of a few years ago.
It is hard for me to believe that the average temperature increase of 1 degree has any impact, and it is even harder to believe that GLOBAL WARMING! has taken place over these short past 3 years. But then again why not. Why let common sense or facts et in the way.
So where will all of these people in Hampton Roads be the next bad winter? Complaining about the roads, I am sure.
(BTW, GLOBAL WARMING! Has to be capitalized because the only way tree-hugger, neo-hippies say it is like that, as in “AHHHH! THE SKY IS FALLING GLOBAL WARMING!!! Including the politicians and Al Gore who then, when finished yelling and lecturing us about how much more enlighten they are compared to all of us, climb into their SUVs and Jets and return to their large mansions that are heated and cooled, I guess with pixie dust)
