  1. I know it’s not grounds to support the man, but one of my favorite political speeches of all time occurred at the last Democratic Presidential Convention when Rev. Sharpton gave his speech about why he’s a Democrat….something to the effect that after the Civil War, African Americans did not get their 20 acres and a mule (think that was the number of acres), but they decided to “get on this donkey and ride it as far as it would take them” anyway. I have often wondered what Al Sharpton would say to Benny Lambert and his misguided endorsement of George Allen. Surely he could educate him about why Allen’s reelection might be a bad thing for blacks (as well as a bad thing for a lot of people).

  2. If I remember correctly, we heard from Kerry, Wes Clark, Edwards, Kuccinich and Al Sharpton at our 2004 DPVA JJ Dinner, and by far Sharpton was the way better most inspirational speaker. I’d like to see him run if for no other reason to hear his voice again. I think he keeps the other contenders honest and on their toes. He is not ulimately one that I chose to support (which I couldn’t anyway as Virginia votes so fricking late).

No doubt he’s inspirational, but some of the causes he takes up are just, I don’t know, he comes off as a racist sometimes.

  4. Sharpton’s a great speaker. A large part of the problem with Sharpton is created by others – people for whom he is the perfect boogeyman. The remainder of the problem is Sharpton himself, of course, but that’s another discussion.
