MLK Day Part 2: Norfolk March

MLK March crowd 1I joined the throng of people gathered at City Hall for the annual Martin Luther King Day March. There were a number of groups gathered for this event, including several of the Greek organizations. I saw the Alphas, the Ques, the Deltas and the AKAs. MLK March RiddickCivic groups also turned out, some representing neighborhoods, and others, such as this one, representing a specific point of view.

Led by the “Lost Boys and Girls of the Sudan,” the marchers left City MLK March Lost Boys and Girls of SudanHall and headed down St. Pauls Blvd. I have no sense as to how many people were there but as you can see, the line was quite long. I stepped out of line for a while and stood on the sidewalk to watch the marchers go by. About that time, the battery on my camera gave out.

So, no more pictures. And also, by that time, I was more than exhausted so I walked back to my car and headed home. I saw some a bit of coverage in today’s paper about the event but not much. I know that the march was to circle the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial at the corner of Brambleton Avenue & Church Street before heading to Chrysler Hall. Given the balmy weather (I think it was in the mid 70s), it was a wonderful day for a walk.

As I went past Military Circle on my way home, I saw another event there, which I had completely forgotten about. Alas, no camera battery so no pictures
