Here’s another interesting perspective on Barack Obama.
Barack Obama would be the great black hope in the next presidential race — if he were actually black.

I wouldn’t normally use a Debra Dickerson essay to even wipe the mud from my shoes, but I will have to grant that she does make some . . .as you say, interesting points.
I might tread lightly there, those sound like racist words, and I am no fan of Obama either.
And before you chide me, remember that I am Hispanic, but I am half Hispanic, and I have heard the same sort of statements used towards me.
This is from the University of Texas ( http://www.utexas.edu/conferences/africa/ads/854.html ):
“African immigrants are noted, in the United States to have the highest level of educational attainment of any group, including native born Americans, for many years running, at least since or earlier than 1994. Many are excelling in their chosen career and professional paths, as well as making resounding economical progress. African immigrants are considered as likely becoming entrepreneurs than African-Americans. Even, second generation Americans descents of contemporary African immigrants are making enormous progress in their aspirations and drive toward insuring their future.”
I, myself, taught such a child of African immigrants. He was a huge, very dark-skinned ninth-grader with a high-top fade. The first day of school, several teachers voiced the hope that they were not to be his advisor. Well, he was assigned to me, and I could not have asked for a nicer, smarter, more hard-working student. (He also gave me good competition in the dead-lift!)
As predicted, so it begins. What amazes me is the question is not Is America ready for a Black President?, the question is Is America ready for a President who is Black enough for… Oh who the hell know who decides that?
The only group that is going to use Obama’s ‘blackness’ against him are Blacks.
Sad.
All of you – go back and read the last paragraph.
“A non-black on the down low about his non-blackness is about to get what blacks have always asked for: to be judged on his merits.”
She makes it sound like that never happens.
Oh, if you get Comedy Central, catch Stephen Colbert’s interview with Debra Dickerson (I’m sure it will air early Friday, and be available online at some point). Priceless.
