GOTV: Verifiable voting

Alice has been diong a great job keeping up with the verifiable voting bills. She updates us on the status of these bills today. Head on over and take a look. And then call or write your representatives and ask them to support these bills.

  1. Please don’t forget Del. Vivian Watts’ very timely bill (HB2287) to allow election boards to process (but not totalize or report results) paper absentee ballots received prior to election day.

As more and more voters opt to vote by mail-in absentee ballot, election officers for Fairfax County are nearly overwhelmed by the sheer volume of work to be done because current law does not allow us to scan mailed-in ballots before election day..only those voting in person. Last November the workers in the CAP (Central Absentee Precinct) were kept until nearly mid-night counting the ballots..hence the delay in reporting the Webb victory.

We desparately need this bill to pass to give Fairfax, and I would assume other large counties, the flexibility that is needed to handle the expected crush of absentee ballots in 2008!!! Please call your state Senators and Delegates to urge passage of HB2287!!!
