SB1327, which increases the minimum wage to $6.50 per hour, passed Senate Commerce and Labor Committee yesterday by a unanimous vote. From the Virginian-Pilot:
“It’s time now and I, quite frankly, don’t think the federal government has lived up to its responsibility in this area,” said Sen. Frank Wagner, R-Virginia Beach.
Now, if the Senate Republicans can get the House Republicans to agree. The House killed all of the minimum wage bills last week.
Disrespect is disrespect! That little “ic” slip can be excused once or twice, but once it becomes habit it’s disrespectful to the party and it’s people. We certaintly don’t come back with calling republicans “the repubes”.
No, BS, critics (you?/people of the Left/Democrats) come back with phrases like “far right,” “right-wing,” “bigots,” and other such nonsense. And yet, I’m willing to bet a dollar that neither you nor our host has inveighed against such practices. No BS.
At the same time, I would probably be willing to concede that our host has not used such phrases, since a brief search (with her search function) reveals no uses of the phrases “far right” or “right-wing” on this blog. She has, however, labeled those supporting the common understanding of language regarding “bigot,” and fails to appreciate the irony in his labeling himself the Commonwealth’s “chief homophobe” (the WaPo article she cites notes that he “wryly” labeled himself as such, as a belittling reference to critics).
Moreover, there can be, and of course is, good, solid reasons why people use the term “Democrat Party” in lieu of “Democratic Party.” There is very little “democratic” about today’s Democrats. To the contrary, today’s most prominent Democrats have more in common with socialists (i.e., socialized medicine) than with traditional Democrats (slavery; Jim Crow; anti-Communism).
Now, I’ve got little patience for those who mindlessly use “Democrat Party” without consideration. But you would lose a dollar if you bet against the notion that I, and others, do so with considered — and in some ways, regretful — thoughts about the state of today’s Democrats.
One more point. I’ve no doubt that many people use the term “Democrat Party” in the same way that they refer to Bernie Sanders (I-VT) as the Senate’s only “admitted Socialist.”
All of you who have come over here for the first time – welcome. Now, take a few minutes and browse around the blog and see how tolerant I have been of Jack and his antics. This was the proverbial straw.
