Report: ODU Reception

The annual ODU Alumni General Assembly reception last night was well-attended. I understand that there had been no receptions in Richmond for several days, as the GA approached crossover. Further, there were several last night, including one across the street (?) for VMI alumni.

Among the attendees that I spotted and/or had a chance to speak with were Sens. Yvonne Miller (D-5th), Creigh Deeds (D-25th), Harry Blevins (R-14th), Fred Quayle (R-13th), Ken Cuccinelli (R-37th), Dels. Kenny Alexander (D-89th), Algie Howell (D-90th), Paula Miller (D-87th), Bob Brink (D-48th), Terrie Suit (R-81st), Sal Iaquinto (R-84th), Matt Lohr (R-26th), Melanie Rapp (R-9th), Lionell Spruill (D-77th), John Cosgrove (R-78th), Leo Wadrup (R-83rd), and Roslyn Tyler (D-75th). Also, AG Bob McDonnell was there. (If I missed anyone, I apologize.)

The event honored ODU Alumni in the GA. The honorees present were Alexander, Suit, Tyler and Rapp. Again, if I missed anyone, I apologize.

Conspicuous by his absence was Sen. Nick Rerras (R-6th). There was a lot of buzz surrounding the revelation of his interview of Mary Commander for a judgeship. The most interesting thing I heard was that there is a recording of that interview floating around. If anyone has a copy, I’d love to hear it. I won’t tell where I got it from 😉 I heard from more than one source that the Rerras campaign is in deep trouble over this and that the race between Rerras and Democratic challenger Ralph Northam is now considered a toss-up.

I think everyone in attendence had a good time. Kudos to the ODU Alumni Association for once again putting together a very nice event.

  1. Yes, Sen. Rerras made for interesting discussion at our VBDC meeting last night as well. Dr. Northam attended and introduced himself. We have an outstanding candidate, and I am reminded to suggest that we all thank the Virginian-Pilot for their tight-on-it editorial in today’s paper.

My sources and I doubt very seriously that Sen. Rerras would be fool enough to record the interview.
