I have to admit that I’m a big fan of the aggregators, as it is the only way I can keep up with all of the stuff happening in the blogosphere. It was more fun when both aggregators had almost the same composition of blogs, because I could use Waldo’s for a quick, clean look at the postings and BlogNetNews for more complicated things, like searches. Even though the two aggregators are no longer equally comprehensive, I still found myself preferring the look of Waldo’s over that of BNN, with all of its bells and whistles.
Unfortunately, Waldo’s aggregator had some problems. I became his “canary,” so to speak, notifying him anytime I saw the aggregator failing to update timely. Sometimes, this was several times a day. I won’t pretend to understand the way the aggregator software that he was using works, but various blog feeds would gum up the system. Probably because he got tired of me pestering him π Waldo has now changed the software he is using.
The new and improved Waldo’s Virginia Political Blogs uses Word Press as a backbone and a plug-in written by a fellow who got equally upset by the failings of the earlier software. The address for the aggregator remains the same, http://www.vapoliticalblogs.com/ . For those of you who have the RSS feed from the aggregator on your blog, as I do, you will need to update the feed address. It is now http://www.vapoliticalblogs.com/feed/ .
Thanks again to Waldo for making it easy for me to keep up with the Virginia blogosphere. And I’ll still be your canary, but I suspect it will be a lot less often π
Any new features that come of this new software are purely incidental — this upgrade was to prevent me from putting my foot through my monitor. π
BNN is way too bulky and obnoxious for me. I rarely if ever check anything posted on there.
Thanks for posting about the need to change the feed, Vivian.
I am always working on ways to make BNN better, so I generally love criticism, but I having a hard time figuring out how to address bulky and obnoxious. If I didn’t know better, I’d wonder whether Terry was talking about my wieght and personality.
LOL!! No David, I wasn’t referring to anyone’s weight. Sorry I didn’t know the editors would read this or I would have actually given some suggestions. Personally, I prefer the layout of some of the other aggregators, they’re “cleaner,” and a lot easier to sift through the content. I didn’t mean it as a slight on BNN, since I do often check the BNN headlines that appear on VJP, and NLS, for example.
