One year ago

On February 11, 2006, I launched this blog. Since then, I’ve written some 1,043 posts (this is 1,044), had some 135,000 page views and nearly 6,000 comments. (Too bad spam doesn’t count as comments – I’ve blocked more than 61,000 spam  messages.)

Thanks to all of you for your participation. I didn’t know what to expect when I started this blog, but it has been an interesting experience. I’ve met some wonderful folks, both online and in person.

Here’s hoping the next year is as good as the last 😉

  1. I have learned from your blog. I have become a better writer because of your blog, and I have made a friend in the blogosphere because of your blog!

I may not always agree, of course, but the discussion around here is better than proving someone wrong. Rare place for that around these parts 🙂

You set the tone by your actions, not by lecturing. Trust me, I suspect we get more from your blog than you get from us.

Keep it up and thanks! Congrats my Friend!!!

  2. I think it is us who should be thanking you!!! I think it is safe to say that members of both parties consider your site to be a valuable source of information.

So, thank you for blogging and congrats on hitting the one year mark!!!

  3. Congratulations! It’s strange to think that it wasn’t too much longer than a year ago that I was still very cynical about politics. It all just felt like a big tug o war where you were either on one side or the other, the party outweighed the issues, and never a middle ground could be met. There certainly are days where it still feels that way, but over all the blogsphere has showed me that it doesn’t have to. People can still discuss issues in a civil and intellectual manner. Debate can be about more than just proving that the opponent is wrong or discreditable in some usually petty way. The different views can lead to ideas that neither alone would have conceived.

There are a lot of people that take the effort to make that possible, and you are one of them. This was one of the first political blogs I started reading daily (other than my brother in law’s) and it’s been a pleasure that I hope will continue for a long time.

  4. Vivian,

I am so happy I saw you on Saturday. We couldn’t walk up the stairs, so we just went back to collapse in the hotel room.

I must say, you have shown what can be done with a well written blog, and one that never fails to instruct me or delight me. If I had the disclipline you do, my blog would have more than three readers!

I know you put a lot of time into your blog and it shows. You are a very gracious host, and I look forward to visiting more often in the future.

    Talk with you soon,

    Mark

  5. Vivian,

    Happy anniversary!

Your blog has set a fine example of how a person/publisher can balance being fair-minded with being genuinely partisan when the cause matters.

  6. There is absolutely nothing I can add here that hasn’t already been said…

“…but the discussion around here is better than proving someone wrong”

“I think it is us who should be thanking you!!! I think it is safe to say that members of both parties consider your site…”

    Congrats. What they said. 🙂

  7. A celebratory surprise should arrive today. And congratulations you are my favorite serious non-mudslinging blog run by a woman from the other side of that really nasty bridge/tunnel combo that I must endure to reach the beach. I hope you are around for many more years. 🙂
