  1. It’s nice to see anyone who is well-off concerned about their community and their country. I can’t understand how being rich and being a Democrat are mutually exclusive. I also can’t understand how being wealthy should influence one’s political and social values.
Wealth equals power and resources in politics and in most of the world. Fortunately, we have “rich Democrats” to step up and be advocates for average (and struggling) Americans.

  2. The only people who run for office today at any level are those with money or those with access to money. That’s the way it goes. Would I like that to be different? Absolutely. But it’s not. And it isn’t partisan, either. So to pick on Northam for putting $20K into a campaign is ludicrous.

There’s too much money in politics, period. I’d much rather have a candidate who is able to put his own money in than to have one be beholden to the monied interests. Take a look at this list, which gives you an idea what I’m talking about. If Rerras’ money came from individuals, it would be a totally different story. Only 3 contributions from individuals in his top 25. That’s sad.

And unless I missed it, I haven’t seen anything from Northam regarding class warfare. Once again, Brian, you paint all D’s with a broad brush.

  3. I like a candidate who puts his money where his mouth is.If Dr. Northam is willing to finance his campaign, it shows his commitment. Also, it seems ridiculous to critcize someone for becoming successful by his own work. The fact that Nick Rerras needs the Senate job to support himself should not be a source of pride to him or his constituents.

  4. I am willing to bet that an educated professional like Ralph Northam not only never calls women “FemiNazis” but also does not think of them in those terms. Any woman who votes for the re-election of Nick Rerras surely must be “possessed by demons”!

  5. Let’s get real. In light of recent (and past) statements by Rerras, how can any person (even holding their nose) vote to keep him in office? The guy is a nationally known whack job.

  6. His attitude toward half his constituents (women) and toward the disabled are very important issues. He’ll probably find out how important very soon.

  7. It is a relevant issue that an elected official is an ignorant bigot, whose personal ideas (which are out of sync with virtually all of society) dictate his conduct in office. If one’s ability to govern in an informed and competent manner is not an issue, I don’t know what is.

  8. I knew Ralph when he was in the Army and early in his practice. He is an honest man with a good heart. He will make a great Senator.
