Ralph Northam will be announcing his candidacy in a series of four press conferences next Tuesday, March 6. Northam, a Democrat, will be challenging Nick Rerras for Senate seat in the 6th district.
The press conferences will be held in Accomac, Northampton County, Norfolk and Matthews. In addition to his candidacy, Northam will be announcing some of his supporters. Among those names are a few surprises.
Stay tuned to this space for more details on the press conferences as well as upcoming events. In the meantime, show some love and send Ralph some money!

Is it just me, or does he for some reasons remind you of Phil Puckett at first glance of that picture?
Yes….the $20,000 he gave himself isn’t enough. Please give your hard-earned money to the rich doctor.
Yeah, right.
DB – must be just you π
Brian – since when does the wealth of a candidate matter?
It always reassures me when the other side sounds scared–so he must be a good investment. I’ll donate today.
why does he have a crab on his sign? thats weird
The 6th District includes a great deal of the Chesapeake Bay area. I am guessing that the crab is actually a Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab, and Northam is using it to represent the district. I think the logo is very unique; I like it.
I love when someone called “anonymous” calls someone scared.
Rerras Rules!
Of the course of a long and distinguished writing career, Benjamin Franklin shifted between several different pseudonyms, Brian. Some of us aren’t quite as creative.
As you repeatedly have proven.
A doctor and crabs. Is that the smartest association?
Vote for Northam — get crabs!
I think he’ll be a great candidate. The fact that he only had 20K is because he only started to raise money right before the deadline. I think he’ll be okay in the end.
Besides that, the district he’s in isn’t exactly unfriendly to a guy like Northam. He’s a doctor at CHKD, a VMI grad and from the Eastern Shore.
As for the crab, I think its a pretty good representation of the Eastern Shore and all parts Chesapeake Bay.
Sean, I wasn’t saying he had raised 20,000 dollars. I said he gave himself 20,000 dollars.
If a Republican wrote himself a $20,000 check, imagine the Democratic catcalls.
I can’t wait to see this guy talk about minimum wage and the middle class while he can write his political campaign a $20,000 check without blinking an eye.
Northam is a doctor. I think most people know that doctors can make some money if they’re worth their salt.
Most of those with a certificate of election make a sizable income. That is one of my problems with the General Assembly. The term “citizen legislator” is nice and folksy, but itβs outdated. Today, in Virginia, the GA is primarily made up of doctors, lawyers, and the self-employed.
I don’t think there are many delegates or state senators who can “feel the pain” of those living paycheck to paycheck. However, they can empathize and realize there is something very wrong with hard working Americans barely able to make the rent with minimum wage.
I think many doctors see a lot of uninsured kids, particularly at hospitals like CHKD. And he’s apparently a psychiatrist and neurologist, and specializes in pediatric neurology. It is likely that he treats a lot of disabled kids, and yes, he should be able to “feel the pain.” Also, unlike Rerras, I’m pretty sure that he doesn’t believe that mental illness is caused by demons, or that God is punishing the families of mentally ill children through their disease.
Awaiting the inevitable flurry of insults from Brian, etc.
