According to the Virginian-Pilot, lawsuits filed by the City of Virginia Beach and the Commonwealth of Virginia regarding Oceana were dropped today. The article reports that the suits were “never served” on the federal government.
They were meant to ensure that Virginia Beach and the state had a legal argument if the jets moved to Florida.
In his press release, Governor Tim Kaine said that he, AG Bob McDonnell and Virginia Beach mayor Meyera Oberndorf are “committed to ensuring that the Master Jet Base remains at Oceana” but “no longer believe these lawsuits have to be litigated.”
The issue of the lawsuits became moot when Florida failed to meet the requirements for getting the jets.
