Bay Oaks Park Committee needs our help

As one of the 5,376 Norfolk residents who signed the Bay Oaks Park Committee petition, I received a letter from the chairman, Bill Kerry, yesterday regarding their need for funds. The letter reads in part:

Now we have several challenges before us. Our legal team is preparing to go before the Supreme Court next month. And the Bay Oaks Park Committee has a bill to pay.

Since the summer of 2005 our attorney, Andrew Saks, has spent hundreds of hours as our legal advocate, offering his services and the support staff at his law firm at no charge. But the appeal to the Supreme Court of Virginia has been a complicated legal process with hard costs associated. The committee has received an invoice for $5,000 from the company (not the law firm) that printed, assembled and produced the physical brief that Sacks & Sacks wrote. Our attorney fees are still being given pro bono, but the firm is asking us to cover the expense of printing the necessary documents which the high court requires.

I have been quite clear about why this case needs to go to the Supreme Court. My check is in the mail and I hope the other 5,375 people who signed the petition will do likewise. Please send what you can to help out. Thanks!
