  1. I don’t know much about Bouchard, but have heard he is a serious candidate. I’d like to know more about where he stands on the issues. Leo’s district is pretty solidly Republican, so this will be a very tough race, much tougher than Mathieson’s attempt to get Welch out.

  2. The guy is serious and has many, many friend across the Commonwealth. Don’t worry Dan, I think this guy gets the district enough to be right there on the issues.

It’s not unwinnable. As a matter of fact, if Welch wasn’t trying so hard to make it easy for Mathieson, it might have been the easiest seat in Virginia Beach to take.

    He’ll be fine.

  4. Here’s more from Bouchard’s bio–

Dr. Joseph Bouchard is the Executive Director of the Center for Homeland Security and Defense at Zel Technologies. He retired from the United States Navy as a captain after twenty-seven years active duty. As a specialist in strategic, long-range and operational planning, Bouchard served as Special Assistant and Deputy Executive Assistant to the Commander in Chief, Allied Forces Southern Europe; Deputy Senior Director for Defense Policy and Arms Control, National Security Council, The White House; and as Deputy Director, Navy Operations Group (Deep Blue), Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. He gained wide recognition as an expert on port security while serving as Commanding Officer of the Norfolk Naval Station. He graduated with distinction from the U.S. Naval Academy, where he majored in International Security Affairs. He holds a Master’s degree in National Security Affairs from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and a Ph.D. in Strategic Planning from Stanford.

This man is brilliant and personable. He’s going to be a great candidate for us.

  5. Wardrup won re-election pretty easily last year, but he still under-performed considering his opponent. Georgia Allen is an intelligent woman one one of the most pleasant people I’ve ever met, but she was under-funded and her all-volunteer campaign staff, though well-intentioned and dedicated, could have stood some professional insight.

*when I googled “Georgia Allen Leo Wadrup” to find the exact breakdown, and the top news article is an old Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article about racism, racial intergration and politics in the Souht (Virginia Beach is said to be the most racially-intergrated city in America at the block level), it came up because it includes comments from Wadrup about taking “dead aim” on a black former member of VB’s city council. I always forget how easy it is for Wadrup to come across as a scumbag.
