ODU women & men in the NCAA tourney

ODU LogoCongratulations to the Monarchs and the Lady Monarchs for making it to the NCAA tournament. The Lady Monarchs received an automatic bid by winning the CAA and will be making their 24th straight appearance. Seeded 10th in the Cleveland region, they will play the 7th seed, George Washington, at the Ted on Monday at 2pm. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2. More information, including details on tickets, is available here.

Oops. Talk about bad information 😳 That came from an old posting on the ODU site. The real info for the Lady Monarchs is that they are seeded 7th in the Stanford region and will be playing 10th-seeded Florida State Saturday at 2pm EDT on ESPN.

The men’s team earned an at-large bid after losing in the CAA tournament. They are the 12th seed in the Midwest regional and will play Friday evening against #4 seed Maryland. The game will be played in Buffalo, NY.

Best wishes to both teams! GO MONARCHS!

  1. I just want to know if there are any new ways the committee can find to dump on the ODU women. Every year I think they’ve found them all, and then the next year they find a new one.

A seven seed is good, yes I like that part, but to send them all the way to California when the two CAA teams that finished beneath them remain on the east coast, SO much closer to home? How is that the right thing to do?? The fan base is extremely important for all of these teams and this placement just completely eliminates that factor for the ODU women.

The up side is that for the first time ever the CAA women got three teams in the tournament. I congratulate JMU and Delaware for excellent seasons and wish them all the best in the tournament. Hofstra had a great season as well.

It’s really great to see the league elevating itself to the big time. 🙂

    Go Monarchs!

  2. Vivian, I just realized your link to the women’s game isn’t right. They are actually playing in Palo Alto against Florida State on Saturday at 2 pm on ESPN – I think the 2 pm is eastern time, but I’m not sure.
