My bud, bwana, has managed to juxtapose two of my favorite things – politics and American Idol – in his post with the above title. As someone who has both run for office and been a full time singer/musician, I can attest to the similarity between the two. Life is a stage.
While bwana makes some very good points, I have to say that I’m not sure that this is not a “chicken or egg” kind of thing. That is, politicians saying what the voters want to hear or voters demanding politicians say or do certain things.
Do voters reward politicians – by electing them – for being honest and being themselves? I’m not so sure. At the same time, I have to wonder what would happen if two politicians ran against each other without the consultants spinning the daylights out of their positions and their behavior.
