American Idol Results 03/21/07

American Idol LogoLast night’s so-called “British Invasion” wasn’t much of one. I was mostly disappointed with the performances of the contestants. I thought they all chose mostly safe, boring songs. My favorite, LaKisha, must have listened a bit too much to last week’s comments about how controlled her voice was. Singing “Diamonds are Forever” instead of the bigger, bolder “You’re My World” was just a poor choice.

Tonight, Chesapeake’s Chris Richardson was surprisingly in the bottom two tonight. Let last night’s vote serve as a wakeup call to Chris: stop choosing safe, boring songs and take some chances up there! You’ve got too much talent. Show it!

Going home tonight was Stephanie Edwards. Watching her perform last night, I could see that Stephanie had lost her confidence. She has a beautiful voice, looks the part of a diva and should have progressed much further in this competition. But the loss of confidence was evident: her voice sounded weak, her singing unsure.

As for Lulu – she showed what an old gal with a now limited range can do. Her updated version of “To Sir with Love” was hot! Compare that to the other oldster on the show: Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits sang “There’s a Kind of Hush.” I wanted him to hush.

I guess Sanjaya’s got enough folks voting for him that he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. A shame, really. While his entertainment factor was better last night, his singing was worse. And, after all, this is a singing competition.

  1. There were definitely some evil glances in his direction from other contestants when Ryan announced that he was safe.

What I honestly sit there and wonder is if he is trying to sound horrible because he knows that’s his only chance of going to the next week. I mean, c’mon folks, there are clear reasons I was majoring on saxophone instead of voice (just ask my sight singing professor) and even I could probably sing better than he did last week.
