From today’s Virginian-Pilot:
It’s Bob versus Bob in the 82nd House District. Bob MacIver, a retired management consultant, has announced he is running as a Democrat against longtime state Del. Bob Purkey. MacIver, 67, retired a year ago from Systems and Software Consortium in Northern Virginia. He lives in the Bay Colony neighborhood and has never run for elected office.

MacIver said he is challenging Purkey because “we’re hurting at the moment. Politics has gotten pretty nasty. People are sick and tired of politics as usual. My campaign is going to be very clean. I’m not going to attack anybody. I won’t have any negative ads.” MacIver said Virginia Beach’s interests are not well-represented in Richmond. Currently, he said, state legislators from Virginia Beach listen to the city’s concerns, then go their own way.
Not noted in the Pilot piece is that Bob MacIver is a native of the district. Head on over to MacIver’s website to learn more about this candidate and to contribute to his campaign.
