UPDATE 2: According to WAVYTV10, the band has received a donation from a local businessman, Danny Meeks, to cover the cost of the equipment. Kudos to Mr. Meeks for stepping up to help out.
If you made a donation, Squeaky says it will be refunded. Thanks to all who participated.
UPDATE: Squeaky set up a Pay Pal account. Head on over and donate.
From Bearing Drift:
There is a group of kids in Portsmouth, The Angels of Toni Bridgeford Marching Band, that needs our help. They are a community marching band that lost all of their drum equipment in a fire the other day.
From WAVY.COM
Tuesday night, a fire raced through the second floor room where the band kept it’s equipment.
Every drum – every drum stick – every cymbal the band owned, gone in a matter of minutes
“it’s a catastrophe. they calling me all night crying on the phone. they got nothing else to do,” said Kareem Hayes, the Band Director.“They’re just lost. they call us everyday: ‘What we gonna do, what we gonna do?’,” said Renee Cherry, the Band President.
…
“It’s keeping them busy; keeping grades up. There are lot’s of other things they could be doing than playing drums,” said Cherry.
READ THE REST AND SEE THE VIDEOThis band not only has talent, but they serve the community through performances while providing kids a place to belong. This group needs help. They need to raise up to $13,000 to replace the equipment that was lost. They actually are booked to perform every weekend in April and May so time is running out.
If you would like to help out, you can make a donation at any Wachovia Bank in care of the “Angels of Toni Bridgeford”. If there is interest in helping, I will set up a Pay Pal account here that can be presented to them on behalf of Hampton Roads Bloggers. Additionally, if there is any corporate types out there willing to help out, let me know.
Squeaky – thanks for letting us know. Set up the Pay Pal account and I’ll be happy to contribute.
Thanks so much for the link. At the original post, there is a place to make donations now. Thanks to everyone!
Thanks for setting that up. I’ve updated my post and sent my contribution.
