So I missed the airing of American Idol tonight but thank goodness for Tivo 🙂 The bottom three consisted of Phil Stacey, Haley Scarnato and Chris Sligh. Last night, Phil sang “Every Breath You Take” by the Police. I thought he did a good job, but I guess not good enough. Haley sang “True Colors” by Cindy Lauper. Not my favorite interpretation of the song but not bad. It was a bit boring. Perhaps she needed to listen to the original a bit more.
Chris Sligh simply has no rhythm. He has a very nice voice but his inability to stay on the beat made his performance last night painful to watch. I guess I wasn’t the only one pained by his performance. He was voted off the show tonight.
The contestants worked with Gwen Stefani this week and she performed on the show tonight. Stefani is a Madonna wanna be – and a pretty poor replacement. I guess her career needs a shot in the arm. But if tonight’s performance was any indication, it needs more than a shot – more like major surgery.
Once again, Sanjaya remains on the show despite being the worst performer. For this subpar performer to not even be in the bottom three is simply ridiculous.
I think I heard them say that next week the contestants are going to be doing the music of Tony Bennett. Talk about **YAWN**
PS – Richmonders, as well as fans everywhere, will love the fact that Elliot Yamin released a self-titled album last week that has sold 90,000 units so far. Good job, Elliot!
Vivian,
I came to your blog tonight just to see what you would say about American Idol! Sanjaya is a lousy performer, but, as far as I’m concerned, anyone willing to go on one of television’s top-rated shows with a ponyhawk deserves the support of the American people.
I watched it on TIVO too, Vivian. Apparently Elliot was also on the Ellen show today too (my mom usually watches the show on tivo during the evenings). I keep telling myself that this will be the week that people just get tired of going along with the joke of voting for Sanjaya, but I keep being wrong.
After tonights results, I began thinking……what if he actually wins. Now, common sense tells me that eventually people will vote for who they think is good once it gets down to the final three or four. But he has gotten this far, so you never know.
I suppose one could ask themselves, okay so what would happen if Sanjaya actually won (note: that’s a big if). Will that dimish Idol’s credibility? And, if so, will there be another season? I know this is a big fat IF situation, but you do have to wonder.
I can’t believe that Sanjaya wasn’t in the bottom three!
In the past, I didn’t believe that Sanjaya could win but I’m beginning to think that he will win. I thought the joke would peter out. But when he didn’t make the bottom three tonight, I saw the writing on the wall. He’s going to win. And, yes, that will be the end of Idol because the whole season will have been a joke. Who will want to watch again when everyone knows the results can be manipulated this way?
How nervous must the producers and stars must be!
I admit: I’m voting to put him in the top as often as possible to make the show unbearable so you’ll stop watching it. It’s for your own good. 😉
anon – don’t do that 😡 AI is my little pleasure during tax season and Sanjaya has just about ruined it. 😦
If Sanjaya manages to pull off a win, AI is toast.
Sanjaya must GO!!!
(PS I bought Elliot Yamin’s CD… Pretty good. Has a ‘Brian McNight’ feel to it that I dig)
