You know who you are. You’re the ones that just can’t stop beating a dead horse. Well, I’m more than a bit sick of it. Harris Miller stepped up to run for office when no one else was in the race. For that, he deserves our respect, not our scorn. Those of you who supported Webb – give it a rest. It’s been almost a whole year, for goodness sake. Your guy won.
Stop using Harris Miller as a whipping post. Grow up, will ya?
PS – James Martin asked me if everyone was invited to my second annual Memorial Day Bash. The answer is yes. And Harris Miller will be there, just as he was last year.
You tell ’em, Vivian. Harris is a good Democrat. I actively supported Webb in the primary, but always had tremendous respect for Harris. It’s not like he jumped in and challenged Jim, and he supported Jim after the primary.
Do you ever get tired of having to be the grown up, Vivian? 😉
I got to know and really like Harris during the primary. So did 72,486 other Democrats. I have never quite understood why anyone thought insulting us was a great idea.
I was for Webb, but I really got disgusted with the way Webb supporters were attacking Harris Miller. He may not be where we are on all issues (neither is Jim Webb), but that was s no reason to open a (circular) firing squad on him.
Thank you very much.
I get so damn sick and tired of those disrespecting a good man like Harris Miller. To what purpose, I have no clue.
Thanks again, Vivian.
Harris Miller struck me as a good campaigner. His appearance at the 5th District Convention last year proved how good he is at thinking and talking on his feet.
People may have a favorite candidate, but the juvenile attacks are beyond what one would expect from educated adults. While there were and are things to criticize about both men, Miller took his loss like a man and an adult. His showing up at Unity Day in Charlottesville last June 29th was a great thing for Democratic unity for the campaign.
Let’s all try to remember that supporting who we want to win is different than treating someone else with outright unwarranted disrepect.
Having met Harris Miller several times and being impressed with his intelligence, knowledge, and how good he was “on his feet” when asked questions, I voted for him in the primaries. He is a good, hardworking Democrat and has been for a long, long time.
Thank you Vivian for your maturity and good will. That’s why I enjoy reading you!
I think in some ways Webb is being hamstringed by his base, which is negative by nature. Recently I’ve noticed that Obama’s starting to run into the problem of his base refusing to allow him to control the message. While Obama is trying to focus on whatever it is he wants to focus on, his donors are out trash-talking with Maureen Dowd while some Obama fan who used to work for someone who now works for the Senator starts cutting his own negative adds to post on YouTube.
Basically what’s happening is that Obama tries to get traction with his message about how we need to be positive about the direction of the country and find new direction on Iraq, education, etc., rather than engaging in politics as usual and tearing each other down. And his supporters go out and say, “Obama’s such a positive guy…not like that dumb bitch Hillary*.”
Webb’s going to be trapped forever by the rabbid anti-Millerites who care more about dividing the party rather than fixing it. Case in point: the bozo posting over at NLS about Webb’s “disloyalty.” The netroots seems to think that politics=pettiness, and by attempting to rise above the pettiness, he’s sunk to a new low in their eyes.
*I personally have a lot of respect for Hillary and indeed am very happy with the deep field of candidates the Democrats are fielding this year.
And there we have the other side of the coin. Yes, Anon, Webb’s base is negative by nature. Such insight! And really, supporters having differing ideas from a candidate? Horrors! Don’t they know that’s disrespectful? They should just shut up and dig deep into their pockets, yes? The Establishment knows what’s best. Just look at how Harris Miller beat . . .er. Yeah.
Please.

I actually like Harris Miller, and I spent a decent amount of time talking to both candidates before I finally decided to go with Webb. It was the first time I’d really put some time and energy into a primary campaign in VA. I do have to admit to being really surprised (and put off by) the constant petty and juvenile sniping between the camps. Especially since there were plenty of substantive differences over which to do battle.
There’s a difference between having different views on issues and different views on people. Most of us who are posting in this thread didn’t get involved in politics to talk about how much we hate people–be they David Poisson, Harris Miller, David Miller, Dennis Miller, or the Miller Light Girls.
Especially when we have Leo Wardrup, John Welch, Nick Rerras, Thelma Drake, and Robert Marshall to worry about.
Oh, c’mon. If we can’t hate the Miller Light Girls, who *can* we hate?
Webb is an ass and a hot-head. Anyone who supported Webb over miller is no Democrat: Simply someone who rather win an election that win in pricipals.
And anyone who takes Squeak’s word on what a good Democrat is has bigger problems with judgment than selecting primary candidates.
