RICHMOND – Governor Timothy M. Kaine released the following statement regarding today’s shootings at Virginia Tech:
It is difficult to comprehend senseless violence on this scale.
Our prayers are with the families and friends of these victims, and members of the extended Virginia Tech community.
Hopefully the Governor can safely return soonest so that he can be here to help the obviously overwelmed campus and administartation of VA Tech
Last I heard, he was scheduled to depart today and would be returning in time to attend the convocation that is going to be held on VT’s campus tomorrow.
Good. I don’t care for Mr. Kaine’s politics, but that campus is in desperate nee of some sort of leadership.
This is so heartbreaking. My best friend lived in AJ years ago and I spent so much time on that campus. While i was @ Radford I spent pretty much every weekend there.
Today is a sad day, today we are all Hokies..
My prayers are with all Tech students, faculty, and alumni.
I, too, lived in AJ. I was an Aerospace Engineer, so I had a few ESM classes in Norris.
As I posted on Bearing Drift and Mason Conservative. Gov Kaine was a true leader today and I was impressed and proud.
There were no politics in his words today, only words that seemed to inspire and look forward.
And someone said he appeared to do it with no notes… that tells you where it came from.
The man did the Commonwealth proud today.
Agreed Grumpy… Agreed
One of the things that has always impressed me about Governor Kaine is that he’s clearly a man with emotional and spiritual depth, which I suspect is rooted in a strong connection to his faith. I have a lot of respect for him because of that; whether I agree with him or not, I always feel like he’s at least being sincere, which is something you can’t say for a lot of politicians.
Eeek, I somehow tabbed into the send button prematurely. What I wanted to finish with was, I’m glad he shared some of that sincerity and depth with us as we all deal wtith this tragedy. I’m also glad to read this morning that there will be independent reviews of the university’s response during the two hours between the shootings in AJ West and Norris–my gut tells me that VT made the right call with the information at hand, but there are a lot of lingering questions about those two hours, and Virginians deserve thorough and objective answers.
I think our state’s government and lawmakers have responded well to an impossible situation, and I’m glad for the sort of leadership and thoughtfulness we’ve seen from both sides of the aisle.
