Hugh Lessig has a good article on Virginia’s role in selecting presidential nominees, set for February 12, 2008.
It is Feb. 12, 2008, and national attention is riveted on Virginia. Presidential nominations for both parties hang in the balance. Front-runners have lavished attention on voters, who now rush to the polls.
More likely, some say, it is Feb. 12, 2008, and no one gives a hoot. Thanks to a slew of primary elections one week ago, the nominations are effectively settled. But thanks for voting and have a free sticker. See you in November.
While I wish for the former, I’m afraid it will be the latter.
Vivian:
Do you know why it is that every time I visit your site, and then try to back out of it, I get between 3 and 15 entries in my history? I can’t just hit “back” — that leaves me at the same site, and then generates a few more entries. There are about 3 or 4 sites that do that to me — yours does it most obnoxiously. Is it because I use Firefox? Have you ever heard from anyone else about this?
Oh, and I love Bonnie Raitt, too. I wish I had been able to get tickets for tonight in Charlottesville, where she is playing a concert to benefit the Charlottesville Free Clinic. About 15 years ago she did a concert to benefit the Virginia Coalition on Jails and Prisons. She’s one of the good guys (or gals).
I’m curious, wouldn’t it be more desirable for there to be clear candidates for the Democratic and Republican nominations? Then those candidates would have an early support base leading to a kickin’ sprint towards November?
I’m already excited.
Lloyd – you are the first to complain about that. Since I don’t host my own site, can you check other wordpress.com sites and let me know if the problem persists? If so, I’ll forward it to the folks here to see if they can do something about it. (BTW – I use Firefox as well and haven’t seen that problem at all. Maybe it is one of your add-ons?)
Mad Hatter – short answer – no. I want to feel like I’m a part of the selection process. If VA becomes an after-thought, the candidates won’t be here to try to get our votes.
Ah, ok. Thanks for a prompt answer.
I suppose what I am afraid of is a splintered race. There are many strong, viable candidates out there. Would the GOP and Dems be able to unify behind their candidates after a decision in Va? Oh well. Either way, it will be an excellent election year.
if rudy wins the gop top spot, look for keys to run as an idependent.
